GIS Data
One of the goals of the Fort Bend County GIS, a facet of the Engineering department, is to provide the most updated GIS file information to both the public and private sector. Some of the GIS data is sensitive, although public information. Before we send you the FTP access codes, information about the requestor (you) will be needed. Once key personnel have reviewed your request for data, FTP access may or may not be granted.
To request access to the FTP site, you will need to do the following:
Create an email to GIS: GISENGINEER@co.fort-bend.tx.us
Within the email, include:

Your name, title, phone number, US Postal address and email address

The name of your organization and whether it is a public or private entity

If you desire to upload data, explain why you believe we would benefit from having your data

“Send” the email
It is advisable that you have already installed on your PC:

A zipping/extracting application (You can download a free trial version of WinZip located here: http://www.winzip.com/)

Following receipt and review of your request, you will receive an email back from us with instructions on how to download GIS files. Do not telephone the GIS to determine the status of your request since it will not speed up the process.
Please note, some GIS data may be confidential by law. Requests for GIS data deemed confidential by law will be submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for review and opinion.
Once you have been granted access to the requested data, you will have the ability to both download files from the “download” folder and upload data to the “upload” folder. If you plan to upload data to the upload folder, please remember to include your desire to upload data within the body of your email.
The Fort Bend County GIS staff will not provide any instructions or help with how to download files or how to use a GIS application. Please utilize the help documentation for WinZip and ArcExplorer.
