Judge Ruby L. Shaw

The Truancy Court was established to process the filings of persons who have failed to attend school, or who are a parent who is contributing to the non-attendance of a student which is required by law. Currently the court receives filing from Fort Bend Independent School District within the jurisdiction of the County. Defendants who are under 17 years of age and have a chronic issue with truancy are often ordered to the Saved by the Bell program. This program places that defendant on a probationary status with the court. They are assigned a Juvenile Probation Officer who establishes a rapport with the defendant and help to enforce the order of the court in an effort to help them with whatever issues they may be dealing with which could possibly be affecting them, in return causing the non-attendance of school. The goal is to encourage the child to remain in school, maintain passing grades, and to excel in their education.
